The forthcoming Chiswick Area Forum on Wednesday 4 November is expected to draw significant interest with the proposed changes on Chiswick High Road between Heathfield Terrace and Dukes Avenue on the agenda.

The meeting, held at The Hogarth Hall in Chiswick Town Hall and open to the public, will begin with an informal networking session at 6.30pm before the formal agenda starts at 7.30pm, with the road safety scheme listed as one of the main items for discussion.

Hounslow Council, working in partnership with Transport for London, has a plan to move part of Cycleway 9 onto the pavement which it is describing as a ‘Road Safety Scheme’. This will allow the restoration of the left filter lane at the westbound approach to the Heathfield Terrace junction with the intention of improving traffic flow and reducing delays on buses.

Residents have raised concerns about pedestrian safety, vehicle speeds saying that this stretch of the High Road carries heavy footfall. Some have suggested that the planned sharing of the pavement between cyclists and pedestrians is confusing and liable to result in collisions as well as pointing out when the design was originally drawn up e-bikes were not common.

The updated report is expected to outline potential measures such as improved crossings, adjustments to junction priorities, speed-reduction features and changes to signage or road markings. The Forum’s protocol allows members of the public to request to speak on highways matters, and where opposing views exist, the Chair may permit both sides to present their case. Written submissions must be provided by 4pm on the day of the meeting, and speakers must contact the Committee Administrator at least two working days in advance.

It is understood that council officers involved in the scheme will be present and will explain how it is intended to bring the changes forward.

The item sits within a wider agenda that also includes a community spotlight on Chiswick Rugby Club, an Open Forum session for residents to raise local concerns, and updates via the Issue Tracker.

The Open Forum is scheduled to take place at around 9pm for approximately twenty minutes, although detailed discussion of agenda items is not permitted during that section.
