The George IV on Chiswick High Road now has a claim to be Chiswick’s strongest pub after winning the Green Days Tug of War challenge.
The competition organised by Joe Scott and sponsored by ChiswickW4.com saw them face off against a team from the Tabard who arguably were on home turf on Acton Green this Saturday (7 June).
After a best of three contests between the mixed eight person teams, it was the High Road hostelry that triumphed in front of an appreciative crowd.

This was perhaps the most strenuous part of an otherwise relaxed day with large crowds turning out to see Al Murray officially launch the Bedford Park Festival a few hours earlier.
For most of the day the weather held with even a few bits of sunshine until heavy rain hit in the last afternoon. The festival was largely unaffected by a large bough from a tree falling across South Parade near the junction with Bedford Corner at around noon. Nobody was hurt and a woodchipper was promptly brought in to have the road cleared in under three hours.
No rain is forecast for the final day of Green Days on Sunday.
The Tug of War Challenge, Green Days and the Bedford Park Festival are raising money for St Michael & All Angels Church & its charities.
Profits will support St Michael & All Angels Church, which runs the festival as part of its mission of community outreach, and its three 2024 charities: The Upper Room, helping the needy in Shepherd’s Bush; Crosslight Chiswick, which provides debt advice to individuals and families in need; and The McCabe Educational Trust, which supports a range of health and education projects in the Holy Land.
