St Mary’s Convent auction proves outstanding success
The total amount raised on the advance sale of catalogues and pictures sold on the day at present stands at £30,800. The auction was a professional affair with Sotheby’s providing paneling and lighting in the Garden Room to show the works of art to their best advantage. Viewings on the Friday evening and Saturday morning were well attended with delicious refreshments provided by the Sisters.
Out of the 48 lots sold, "Seascape" by Mark Gertler fetched the highest amount selling for £2,600, and “Wild Landscape” by William Scott fetched an admirable £2,200. Works
of local interest proved especially sought after and included a
screen print by Peter Blake that sold for £875 against an

Sisters were delighted by the amazing kindness of all the people
that donated works of art and those who bid so generously for them.
The money raised will go a long way towards the building appeal’s
