Thousands of dog lovers gathered on the cricket pitch at Chiswick House on Sunday for the 21st annual Chiswick House Dog Show—London’s largest community-led canine celebration. With dry skies and cool autumn air, the event drew record attendance and showcased the full spectrum of doggy charm, from rescue heroes to fancy dress stars.

Over 500 dogs took part in one or more of the 17 classes - held in one of the three Rings – each sponsored by Butternut Box, Dog Town and Wolfe Vets.

Classes were judged by a mixture of class sponsors and specially-invited dog lovers, including the Mayor of Hounslow (Councillor Amy Croft), local MP (Andy Slaughter) as well as actor Harriet Thorpe (from Eastenders) and local thespians Kevin McNally, Richard Lintern and Neil Dudgeon.

The ex-BBC correspondent and author, Rory Cellan-Jones was there to help judge Best Rescue and also on board were broadcaster (Heart Radio) Pandora Christie and the cookery writer and stylist, Jo Pratt.

Comedian and all-round entertainer, Herbie Adams, compered the very popular Fancy Dress and My Dog’s Got Talent classes.

This year’s Best in Show went to Jinx, a miniature Pomeranian whose confident strut and gleaming coat won over the judges and the crowd. Owner Ed beamed as Jinx took the top prize, capping off a day filled with tail wags and applause. The runner-up was Bear, a Central Asian Shepherd rescued from the streets of Macedonia, who also claimed Best Rescue and second place in Handsomest Dog.

Rory Cellan-Jones, who judged the rescue category, admitted he was tempted to award Mischa, a Romanian rescue dog reminiscent of his own beloved Sophie.

There was a huge range of 75 different stallholders, some are which are ‘regulars’ (the local RNLI, Sipsmith, Ealing’s Bang & Olufsen, Brian Recommends Dog Treats, Chiswick Art School, Hogarth Health Club, Chiswick Cinema) which included charity stalls and a wide variety of food outlets. Chiswick Cinema hosted a stand promoting its upcoming dog-friendly screening of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.

The Harefield branch of the Dogs Trust and their volunteers put on the entertaining and very popular Doggy Dash, and a new innovation this year was the ‘have-a-go’ agility course run by Walkies & Waggietails.

The DogBola stall, with all its prizes donated by the stallholders, class sponsors and local businesses, was a success again and – surpassing all expectations - raised nearly £2500.

The Chiswick House Dog Show, now in its 21st year, is run by a committee of 12 canine-loving volunteers. On show day, they are helped by another 180 volunteers who give up their time to help by being ‘dogsbodies,’ assisting on the Registration Desk or Dog Show Bar, being marshals, stewards, runners, litter pickers, etc. The show could not be put on without their help.

All proceeds from the show go to the Chiswick House & Gardens Trust, helping maintain and enhance this historic estate. The funds support path repairs, tree care, and improvements to ensure the grounds remain a safe and welcoming space for dogs and their owners year-round.
