Town Hall Police Meeting
With an audience of over 200 including our MP and Councillors from both parties Chief Superintendent Wilson and his colleagues faced some tough questioning from local residents.
He promised to maintain the recent increase in Safer Neighbourhood Team officers (SNT), currently based at Acton Police station, find a local location for the officers to work from and improve the investigative process currently in use.
There is clearly a desire for better communication that yields greater confidence to reported crime and anti social behaviour.
Many present realised there is value in bringing the community together at this forum and it should continue.
CPR and Defibrillators: How to save life
I noted the defibrillator installed in Turnham Green Station and the publicity of more are being installed within the rail network.
I met with Heather Johnson at the Town Hall Police meeting.
Heather led on the installation of a defibrillator near St. Nicholas Church.
As we discussed, it’s great news that more defibrillators are being installed and available, but she was concerned that people need to know when and how to use them.
Heather and her colleagues trained about 50 people at St Nicholas Church as part of their Defibrillator Project and all were grateful for the training. They needed the confidence to know that they could initiate treatment and could potentially save a life.
She recommended the British Heart Foundation website on-line training as being very good. Here’s the link.
Police station Redevelopment
The developers have submitted some amendments to their previous planning application. They gave a presentation at Planning Committee. Local Cllrs. Gill and Biddolph attended as did local residents.
Some of their suggestions to be circulated shortly have already been accepted by the developers.
At present there will be accommodation for 50 residents. This figure is under review.
Local Parking for visiting medical staff and visitors is an important consideration.
Hounslow Council Installation of Air Pollution monitoring equipment: School Audit Data
I recently asked the following question at Council
In September 2021 Cabinet authorised £1,2m for 'Clean Air For All' funding to, amongst other things replace and enhance legacy air pollution measurement equipment in use throughout Hounslow.
The Clean Air for All programme had the following deliverables which were to be achieved by 2023:
• To identify areas in Hounslow where air quality monitoring can be improved and to upgrade the existing monitoring stations.
• To expand air quality monitoring (through the installation of additional automatic monitoring stations and diffusion tubes) throughout Hounslow to understand the distribution of pollution and any high-risk areas.
• To identify and implement actions that will reduce pollution down to WHO guideline levels in order to deliver clean, healthy air for all in the first instance focusing on schools and public buildings this will be part of the Clean Air for Schools Project
For reasons not publicly disclosed, this new equipment was not procured until mid 2023. There is no date of final installation known. To date, there are only two PM2.5 pollution readers in use in Hounslow. Particulate Matter 2.5 causes serious damage especially to young children. Six were approved by cabinet in late 2021.
To date only 12 schools have received an Air Pollution audit from our Climate Emergency & Environmental Strategy Unit . The 2021 cabinet report allocated £500k to this important task. Whatever our pupils and staff deserve the benefits such audits provide and residents evidence of our commitment to identify and address areas of high pollution.
Why has there been such a tardy response to the need identified in 2021 to provide sophisticated air pollution equipment and expertise to the Borough schools in particular?
Cllr Dunne responded giving a long rambling response. She told me there had now been 14 school audits which leaves another 77 to do.
We’ll continue to monitor this important subject.
