Chiswick Back Common Tennis Courts Profit From Wimbledon Tennis Fever

The proposed restoration of the tennis courts on Chiswick Back Common
reached game and set but not quite match status this week with the confirmation
that the Deputy Prime Minister’s office had given their approval to the
        plans during Wimbledon fortnight.

The only decision left to be taken is by the council’s Executive Committee
before local tennis firm, TFC Leisure, can implement the plans to renew
the existing courts and develop new opportunities for tennis on the central
        Chiswick site.

The approval from the Deputy Prime Minister, required because of the need
to create a management contract and construct a new clubhouse on common
land, follows hot on the heels from approval by the Open Spaces society.

Peter Thompson, Councillor Turnham Green Ward, said, "I am delighted
that the end is finally in sight with the redevelopment of these tennis
courts. The local community and Chiswick Area Committee have waited for
many years and now we will get the top class facilities that we deserve.
It is wonderfully appropriate to be able to welcome this news during the
Wimbledon fortnight - hopefully centres like this will encourage some
home grown talent to take on the world's best in a few years time!"

TFC Leisure has already started some low level prepatory work on the back
common tennis courts, making the existing facilities playable. Further
developments, once final approval is given, will see a new community tennis
        programme for the local community.
