Emergency repair work is set to begin on Burlington Lane in Chiswick from 9pm on Sunday 28 September, lasting approximately one week. The works follow multiple reports of gas escapes in the area, prompting Cadent to carry out urgent repairs to ensure the safety and reliability of the local gas supply.
The operation will run 24 hours a day in coordination with local councils and highways authorities. A lane closure will be in place on Burlington Lane northbound, from Paxton Road to the Hogarth Roundabout, with no vehicle access to the roundabout during the works.
Hogarth Flyover will remain open but only to vehicles under three tonnes and no wider than two metres. Larger vehicles—including heavy goods vehicles and buses—will be required to follow diversions via Kew Road (A307) and Great West Road (A4). Residents on Paxton Road will still be able to exit and use the flyover, but there will be no turning space for oversized vehicles.
The restrictions come amid longstanding concerns from local residents about overweight vehicles using the Hogarth Flyover, which is not designed to accommodate heavy traffic. There have been previous incidents of large vehicles becoming stuck on the bridge, causing disruption and raising safety fears.
The council has advised drivers to plan ahead and follow posted diversions. Updates on the progress of the repairs and any changes to access will be provided by Cadent throughout the week.
