Concern Over Fishers Lane Playground Plans

Move to Chiswick Back Common may be an option

A consultation has taken place about moving Fishers Lane playground across the road onto Chiswick Back Common. The final date for responses was 21st December but as this web site and local ward Councillors were not informed in time it was not possible to raise awareness that it was happening.

The proposal is to spend £114,000 on upgrading the playground. Given the apparently stealthy nature of the consultation, playground users have raised concerns that the existing playground site would be developed but sources say that the area would be landscaped.

On the notice outside posted outside the playground a plan shows the 'existing play area' and the 'proposed new play area'.  The new play around would take up a triangle shaped section of the main common adjacent to Fishers Lane and the path running across the common.

The playground has apparently come to the end of its natural life and is no longer economical to repair and early next year external contractors will be asked to submit plans for a new design. The responses to the consultation were supposed to determine the brief given to the contractors.

Cllr. Peter Thompson, who heard about the scheme only this week, said on the ChiswickW4.com forum, "It seems that the Council neglected to inform ward councillors of any of the above – since it’s the festival session I will say no more!."

The moving of the site to the other side of Fishers Lane is a suggestion and not written in stone according to Councillor Thompson.

Hounslow Council have not responded to requests for a comment on this matter.
