Greens Announce Chiswick Gunnersbury Candidates

The Hounslow Green Party has selected long-standing Chiswick residents Aubrey Crawley and Jon Elkon as its candidates for the Gunnersbury ward in the upcoming local elections on Thursday 7 May.
Mr Crawley, who was briefly Labour’s candidate for the same ward last year before resigning, said he left the party because he felt “let down by its leadership,” accusing Labour of “multiple U-turns, unfulfilled promises, and poor leadership.” He said his priorities as a councillor would include tackling rising crime, supporting independent businesses, addressing traffic issues, and making Chiswick “a cleaner, greener, and safer place to live.”
A Chiswick resident for more than a decade, Mr Crawley moved to the UK in 1998 and spent most of his career in commercial finance. He is well known locally for his photography and for founding the West London Queer Project, a social enterprise supporting LGBTQ+ communities across the area.
Mr Elkon, who has lived in Chiswick for 25 years, is joint coordinator of the Hounslow Green Party and runs the Bushido Karate Club at ArtsEd, where he is a 5th Dan instructor. He came to the UK in 1970 as a refugee from apartheid South Africa, later retraining as a teacher after a career in business and publishing. He said he would prioritise fixing “the mess in Hounslow’s planning department,” tackling traffic on Chiswick High Road, supporting local retail, and protecting green spaces.
The Conservatives have already confirmed their full candidate slate for Gunnersbury ward, selecting sitting councillors Vickram Grewal, Joanna Biddolph, and Ron Mushiso for the May 2026 local elections.
Labour has indicated it will contest all three seats in Gunnersbury, with Hanif Khan and Maria Saroya among those previously announced as candidates for the ward alongside Aubrey Crawley before his defection to the Greens. Mr Khan, who served as Hounslow’s Cabinet Member for Transport, contested the ward in 2022 and is expected to campaign on local transport and community issues.
At present there is no public confirmation of Liberal Democrat or Reform UK candidates for Gunnersbury, though both parties have stood candidates in Hounslow in past elections and may still finalise slates.
No other parties have formally declared candidates for the ward at this stage, according to the most recent election information available.
The London Borough of Hounslow will hold its next local elections on Thursday 7 May, with voters across the borough electing councillors to represent 22 wards.
