Buddhist Monk Gets Jail Sentence


Offences occurred in the seventies in Chiswick

A senior Buddhist monk from south London has been jailed for seven years after he was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault.

Pahalagama Somaratana,(65), of Dulverton Road, Croydon, was also put on the sex offenders' register for life.

He was also ordered at Isleworth Crown Court to never work with children.

Somaratana was the chief incumbent of Thames Buddhist Vihara. The assaults had taken place in Chiswick in the 1970s.
