Crimestoppers has announced a reward of up to £20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of 75-year-old Chiswick resident John Murray, who was fatally assaulted in his home two years ago next week.

Mr Murray was attacked on Sunday 12 October 2024 at his flat on Carlton Road, near the junction with Southfield Road. Emergency services attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial post-mortem results suggested his head injury might not have been caused by foul play, but later pathology confirmed it was the result of an assault. A murder investigation was launched in June 2025, with forensic teams returning to the property as new evidence emerged.

Nine months on from the attack, detectives say they are making progress but urgently need further information. They are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to check any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage that might show suspicious activity around Carlton Road. Officers also want to hear from anyone who knew Mr Murray and may have noticed changes in his behaviour in the weeks before his death.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, said John Murray was “a father, grandfather, and a well-liked neighbour, who was brutally murdered in his own home,” adding that the public’s help is essential to securing justice.

Mr Murray’s family said they are still struggling to understand why anyone would harm “a 75-year-old defenceless man in his own home,” and urged anyone with information to come forward. Neighbours have echoed the appeal, describing him as a kind and central figure in the community who was always willing to help others.

Crimestoppers London Regional Manager Alexa Loukas said the charity is offering the £20,000 reward for information passed to them anonymously that leads directly to an arrest and conviction. She said the murder had “left a family grieving and a community searching for answers,” and emphasised that someone out there knows what happened.

Crimestoppers guarantees complete anonymity for anyone who contacts them. Calls are not recorded, IP addresses are not traced, and no personal details are ever requested.

Information can be submitted at any time by calling 0800 555 111 or via the Crimestoppers website.
