This week began with the Football Governance Bill in the House for second reading. Local football clubs are often the beating heart of a community, and in turn give a lot back to those communities. I gave an honourable mention to Queens Park Rangers. A local club in my constituency.

The Justice Committee held an evidence session this week with the Chief Executive of the Criminal Cases Review Commission, along with the Casework Operations Director. The Criminal Cases Review Commission has come under a lot of scrutiny of late and the aim of the session was to try and understand what has gone wrong. Full transcripts of all public evidence sessions can be found here for those interested.

Continuing the Justice theme, there was a debate in the House on Tuesday about criminal injuries compensation. I was grateful for the chance to debate this issue in the House and draw attention to the clear limitations of the scheme.

On Wednesday the Sentencing Guidelines Bill held its Committee Stage. We debated the contents of the Bill, and the amendments tabled by Opposition parties. At present, the Bill is not a solution to the problems that have been identified. If we want a system that is not only fair and robust, but clear in dealing with when pre-sentence reports are needed, we may need to return to this issue on a future occasion.

There was a debate on support for people in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. As I said in my speech, there has been a huge outpouring of sympathy from my constituents with over 7,000 emails received on the matter. Unfortunately there is little good news coming from Gaza. We need the Government to take the lead from the British public who have made it clear their support for Palestinian people and their desire to see more positive steps.

I am delighted to see the return of community book swap libraries at some TfL stations this month including Hammersmith, Ravenscourt Park and Stamford Brook. I know these are a well-loved resource and I am sure everyone will be very pleased to hear of their return.

Best wishes,

Andy

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site.
