Chiswick World War I Soldier Honoured In His Old School
Private Edmund Henry Burn commemorated at Isleworth & Syon school
A Chiswick soldier who died in the First World War has been honoured in the Isleworth & Syon School he attended as a pupil.
Private Edmund Alfred Henry Burn, lived with his family at Gunnersbury, Chiswick prior to his death on 27 October 1917.
The school has completed a four-year World War I commemoration project titled ‘We Remember’, honouring 81 former students who died during the war. A website has been set up where, on each anniversary, text information is uploaded to the webpage with brief information about each fallen soldier, as well as social media posts honouring their sacrifice. The school also partnered with the local Isleworth WWI project to give further information about some of the troops who lived locally, painting vivid pictures of those individuals who battled for their country.
Edmund was a Private in the London Regiment (London Scottish). He died, with honour, on Wednesday 31 October 1917. He was just 20 years old and was the son of Henry W and Rose Burn of 379 Chiswick High Road.
His memorial at the Beersheba War Cemetery, 75 kms south
of Jerusalem.
Headteacher Euan Ferguson said, “This four-year project is a significant
historical record, offering a snapshot to some former members of our school
community who made the ultimate sacrifice during the war. With a rich
history spanning nearly 400 years, Isleworth & Syon School is proud
of our traditions and will continue to honour these through everything
we do.”
The web page will remain on the school website as a permanent record, offering
website visitors the opportunity to learn more about these brave young
men.
