The Addison Singers Oratorio Choir’s Spring concert is to be a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah parts I and II.
It is taking place on St. Peter’s Church on Southfield Road (W4 1BB) on Saturday 29 March at 7:30pm.
Tickets are available online and at rehearsals in advance for £18 or £3 for under 16s. On the door on the night tickets cost £20 and £5 respectively.
The choir’s music director Matthew Thomas Morgan said, “The Addison Singers Oratorio Choir presents one of the most well-loved oratorio’s in the choral repertory, Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
“The work depicts events from the Prophet Elijah’s life featuring large scale choruses and more intimate recitatives and arias, many of which are regularly heard as standalone arias in concerts.
“Inspired by great compositional masters of earlier oratorios, Mendelssohn’s work is a fulsome homage to composers such as Handel and Bach, both of whom the composer revered.
“We look forward to sharing it with you in an arrangement for organ this Spring.”
The event is sponsored by local estate agent Horton and Garton.
New members are always welcome to join the Addison Group of Singers, which is made up of three different singing classes and four different choirs for singers of all ages, abilities and musical interests. It was founded more than 30 years ago with David Wordsworth as its Musical Director since 1995. Matthew Thomas Morgan was appointed Music Director, Classical at the beginning of 2023 to conduct the Chamber Choir and Oratorio Choir.
The Addison Singers comprises two classical choirs – an auditioned Chamber Choir and larger non-auditioned Oratorio Choir; and two jazz choirs – an auditioned Jazz Ensemble and a larger non-auditioned all-female Jazz Choir. It also offers three different singing classes to meet the needs of beginners, intermediate and the more competent, experienced singer.
