Vigilant Residents Reduce Crime

February update from Neighbourhood Watch

Residents need to continue to keep a close watch both day and night on what is happening in their street and gardens. Trust no one who you do not recognize who appear to be taking more than just a passing interest in our homes, alleyways to the rear of homes, our front gardens, or our parked vehicles. The following three crimes committed in Hamilton Road and Westbury Place last month illustrate the value of keeping a watchful eye and taking sensible precautions:

Four unknown youths were seen by a resident entering a vehicle parked in Hamilton Road. The resident knew the owner of the vehicle but did not recognize the four youths.

The resident called out to the youths who quickly exited the vehicle and ran off along Hamilton Road towards Brook Road South. A second resident went to see if they could locate the youths and found them in the private car park situated between the beer garden of The Royal Oak and the apartments adjacent to Griffin Park on the east side of Brook Road South.

The police were contacted. The youths, realizing that they were being watched and possibly suspecting that the police had been called, quickly fled towards New Road. There was no damage done to the vehicle they had entered in Hamilton Road and nothing was taken.

Two police vehicles arrived on the scene very quickly and a search of the area commenced, but it is not known if the four youths were apprehended.

A Hamilton Road resident left their home for a short while. When leaving the home, a bicycle belonging to the resident’s family was securely locked and fastened to railings in the front garden. When the resident returned home a short while later,the bicycle was gone.

Overnight a vehicle parked in Westbury Place was entered into and the contents of the glove compartment thrown onto the floor and front seat. As nothing of value was kept in the vehicle, nothing was stolen. Once again, no damage had been done to the vehicle. The police have been informed.

Burglary, The Ride. Brentford
There was a daytime burglary at a residence in
‘The Ride’ on Saturday 23rd February. A computer and a lap top were stolen. It is thought that the burglar(s) may have entered the premises through an unsecured rear window. The resident was not at home when the burglary took place.
