Over 1000 Recordings on Isleworth Noise Map

Presentation Evening of the final map

Residents of Isleworth have recorded over 1044 individual noise readings using new technology developed for smart phones to take their own noise recordings. The recordings were made as part of a 5 week project in Isleworth which is a collaboration between University College London and HACAN (Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise).

An event has been organised on Tuesday 24th July, from 6.30pm – 8.30pm at Isleworth Public Hall to mark the end of the 5 week project mapping noise pollution in Isleworth. A presentation of the final Isleworth Noise Map (tinyurl.com/isleworthnoisemap) will be given.

The project aims to enable local communities to do something about the problem of noise pollution for themselves and to create a collective local map of Isleworth. The idea is to enable local residents to demonstrate the levels of noise they are actually exposed to based on their own data collection.

UCL project community officer Joe Ryle said:

“We have been impressed with the level of engagement from people who have taken part in this project. Now is the most important bit where we work out what we are actually going to do with all the information we have gathered”.

HACAN chair John Stewart said:

“This is a really important project.  It gives power to local people to measure the noise over their heads themselves.”
