Residents around Syon Lane are being warned to expect significant disruption next month as Northumberland Avenue closes for up to two weeks to allow Cadent Gas to carry out urgent work on a critical connection.

The closure, which runs from Monday 6 April to Friday 17 April , forms part of Cadent’s ongoing programme to replace ageing home-gas infrastructure across the area. The company has written to households west of the junction to advise them of the works.

Cadent has been granted a permit to renew a key gas connection near Northumberland Gardens, with the project expected to last a fortnight. However, the Traffic Order will remain in force for up to 21 days to allow for any unforeseen delays or remedial work.

During the closure, only works vehicles and emergency services will be permitted to enter Northumberland Avenue from Syon Lane. In addition, the nearside northbound lane on Syon Lane — between Syon Lane Station and Northumberland Avenue — will be restricted for the duration of the works.

Because access to and from the Northumberland Estate will be limited, an extensive diversion route will be in place. Drivers are being advised to avoid using the area as a shortcut or rat-run during the works.

Tony Louki, the ward councillor for Osterley and Spring Grove queried why the project was not scheduled during the school Easter holidays, when traffic levels are typically lower. Cadent responded that the week of 30 March to 3 April was too short to complete the work efficiently. Starting for four days and then leaving the site inactive for three would, they said, risk confusing drivers and prolonging the overall duration.

Residents with questions can contact Cadent Gas quoting reference IMGA272232 on 0800 085 4478 or email customercarelondon@cadentgas.com.
