An 18-year-old man from Isleworth has received a 15 year sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of GBH.

Husain Ali of Unwin Road sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, 9 September in relation to an offence committed in Southall last year.

Ali attacked his victim in a gang related incident on Regina Street shortly before 8.28pm on Monday, 12 October 2020.

He chased him with a group of associates into a shop and then swung his knife at him multiple times. When the emergency services arrived on the scene his victim, who is in his twenties, was assessed as having life-threatening injuries and airlifted to hospital by a London Air Ambulance helicopter.

Ali was initially charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to a lesser offence this February.

Acting Detective Sergeant Reda Imane from West Area CID who led the investigation said, “Police are working hard to fight knife crime in London to ensure that local communities can live, work and raise their families in safety. This was a violent gang attack that could have cost a man his life.

“I want to praise my colleagues in Emergency Response Team who were first at the scene and provided the victim with vital first aid. Had it not been for their quick thinking and the brilliant efforts of the Air Ambulance, the victim may have died from his injuries. I am also grateful to all members of the public and to our borough partners who provided numerous pieces of evidence and hours of CCTV footage.

“The sentence imposed by the judge reflects the seriousness of this incident, Ali will have a lot of time to reflect from his prison cells. This is a clear message to those intending to commit violent knife crimes.”

The 15 year sentence comprises of 10 years’ imprisonment and a further 5 years extended licence.
