Warning given to brace for even higher fatality rates ahead
Fatalities from Covid-19 expected to continue to rise
The latest official data shows that eleven more people have died recently from Covid-19 in the Brentford and Isleworth area.
The figure is from December and brings the total number of fatalities in the area to 74.
The high monthly death rate is a result of the rapid spread of infection since November and. as cases have only recently peaked, it is expected that there will be an even higher death toll in the area in January. Hounslow Council are reporting that the death toll across the borough so far in the month is 100 .
A local GP commented on the figures by saying, “We should brace ourselves for a much worse number in January when the full impact of the new strain has been felt. This hopefully will be the peak as tremendous progress has been made with vaccinating the elderly, key staff and vulnerable groups.”
Although the number of positive tests remain high in the area, they have generally continued to fall compared to the previous week. In the Syon Green area cases are down by 38.6% in the week to 17 January to give an infection rate of 636.6. Brentford West and Osterley Park saw a 31.2% decline.
Some areas are still seeing increasing infection rates including Brentford Central which had 94 cases during the week to give an infection rate of 884.2. Spring Grove has the highest infection rate in the vicinity at 1,078.9.
The ONS divide the country into ‘Middle Super Output Areas’ (MSOAs) of roughly equal population size.

Council leader Steve Curran and public health director Kelly O’Neill have confirmed that Hounslow borough recorded the highest infection rate in London at 914 per 100,000 of the population, on 20 January. Infection rates are much higher in the west of the borough than in Brentford and Isleworth.
They said, “Though infection rates in the borough are coming down, they are not coming down quickly enough. These high numbers are putting our local NHS under great strain and, sadly, will mean more deaths.”
On 19 January 2021 the daily number of new people tested positive for Covid-19 in London was reported as 6,237 bring the total number of cases to over 600,000 since the start of the pandemic. This compares to a figure of 3,022,609 cases for England as a whole
