A project to refurbish the Mulberry Centre has received a boost thanks to a grant from Hounslow Council.
The facility, which is based on the grounds of West Middlesex Hospital, provides holistic support for anyone affected by cancer through counselling; complementary therapies; wellbeing activities and informative workshops.
As part of the Council’s wider community funding programme and infrastructure levy, it has been awarded over £45,000.
The Mulberry Centre’s Chief Executive, Raj Athwal said, “We are deeply grateful for this funding, which is instrumental in supporting the Mulberry Centre Facility Enhancement Project. This generous grant enables us to create a safer, more accessible, and welcoming environment for our clients.
“With a significant rise in demand expected with the opening of the new Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre at West Middlesex Hospital, these improvements are vital.
“The project ensures we can continue providing high-quality, compassionate support to those affected by cancer, now and in the years to come.”
A grant of £12,000 has also been given to Woodlands Estate Resident Freeholders Association to refurbish the bathrooms and toilets including accessible toilets in the community centre in Isleworth. In addition, £35,000 has been given to improve a scout hut in Bedfont and nearly £18,000 to develop a garden in a women’s refuge.
The Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Tom Bruce, said, “We are incredibly proud to support these charities and community groups who provide invaluable support and guidance to so many our residents in need.
“Charities such as the Mulberry Centre form the bedrock of our communities and we will continue to work closely with them to deliver for our residents.”
Over the past year, Hounslow Council has awarded more than £2.8 million to 190 local community projects.
Councillor Ajmer Grewal, Cabinet Member for Residents Support, Communities and Equalities added, “Our new four-year Thriving Communities Strategy illustrates our ongoing commitment to support the voluntary sector, and we want to ensure these volunteers, community groups and charities remain woven into the fabric of everyday life in Hounslow.”
